Waiting on Baby | A Heartfelt Maternity Session in North Louisiana

Some sessions just stay with you — and this beautiful North Louisiana maternity session was one of those special ones. This sweet family of three is soon to become a family of four, and every moment we captured together was filled with tenderness, joy, and anticipation.

From the very first hug to the last soft laugh, there was so much love in the air. You could feel the excitement as they dreamed about the little life they’ll soon be holding. Melissa was absolutely glowing in her blush pink dress, her hands gently resting on her baby bump, and the way her husband looked at her said it all — pride, love, and a quiet sense of awe for the beautiful journey they’re on together.

Kinlee absolutely melted my heart. She was so curious and gentle, already stepping into her new role as big sister with so much sweetness. One of my favorite moments was when she reached up and rested her tiny hand on her mama’s belly. It was pure magic — the kind of moment that makes you stop and realize how precious this season of life truly is.

The evening light in the North Louisiana countryside was soft and golden, wrapping this little family in the most beautiful glow. Surrounded by tall grass and open skies, it felt peaceful — like the world had slowed down just long enough for them to soak in these fleeting moments together.

Sweet Beginnings: Baby Callie’s In-Home Newborn Session in Haughton, Louisiana

There’s something incredibly special about in-home newborn sessions — the comfort, the authenticity, and the peaceful rhythm of a growing family settling into their new normal. That magic was beautifully present during baby Callie’s session in Haughton, Louisiana.
Wrapped in soft white swaddles and surrounded by the warmth of her family, little Callie was an absolute dream. With her delicate features and peaceful expression, she was the picture of pure newborn sweetness. But what made this session truly heart-melting was her proud big sister, Abigail.

Abigail was full of gentle affection and quiet curiosity. Dressed in a soft floral dress and adorned with a sweet white bow, she lovingly cuddled her new baby sister beside the crib, already stepping into her big sister role with so much grace and tenderness. My dear friends, expect long their first baby. It was such an honor to be able to photograph their maternity session at this lovely location in Shreveport. It made for such dreamy photos!

We met on a Sunday after church for lunch and then headed to the location. The weather was threatening a downpour but it stayed clear until we finished.

We had so much fun together and I just loved how each area used for the session had such unique characteristics. It made for not only beautiful photos, but interesting details as well.

Laura is carrying pregnancy with such grace: truly glowing.

Serenity Mitchell | Newborn Photographer In Shreveport Louisiana

The most beautiful and precious baby girl, little Serenity. Oh how I loved photographing this sweet in-home newborn session.

Serenity’s family is no stranger to this blog. You have seen their wedding, maternity photos with big brother, his newborn session, his six month session, first birthday, and his second birthday. I LOOOOOOVE repeat clients like this. It’s truly a photographer’s dream come true!

I met the Mitchell family at their home around 10 am. I find this is a sweet spot because baby is usually happy and usually ready for a good nap, which is what we want. Sleepy baby vibes!!

We started out nice and slow, photographing baby girl in her crib and then moved on to family images, then finishing with just her. I like to go with this workflow because a lot of times I will swaddle baby for family photos after they have gotten a full belly. This usually gives us time for baby to fall into a nice deep sleep during family photos so that they are reeeeally sleeping well for their own debut.

One of my wishes for nearly every newborn session is to capture a baby yawn. Ugh, I love them so much!! When I get one I feel like I can go home happy. Haha!! In all truth though, I seriously love them and they are always one of my favorites form the whole session. But I do usually have way too many favorites!!

Sweet little David. I loved this session and meeting this sweet family. There is nothing like bringing these precious babies home and seeing them in the little nursery that you spent so many months planning and prepping. Everything culminating to this day. How many months you wait and dream: what will they look like, how tiny will they be, what will their little cry sound like. So many unknowns. But when you see them for the first time, all the waiting and planning and dreaming becomes reality- they are here.

I will never take it for granted, all the moms and dads bringing me into their home to photograph such a special time in their lives. It is just the absolute best.

This session took place in Bossier City, just on the other side of the river from Shreveport, LA. Little David’s family welcomed me into their home and treated me so kindly. I know his parents are just going to do the best job raising him. Thank you, Andersons, for allowing me to document this incredible time for you!

The sweetest baby boy I had the honor to photograph. These newborns are just so precious!

Little Noah was so excited for his session with me that he decided to come two weeks early. Haha! Ok, that is stretching the truth a bit. Every baby I have photographed this year have been born early. It’s so fun to have an expected date for their arrival and then they surprise us all.

I arrived at little Noah’s home for his session and began to set everything up. Many times I need to set up lighting equipment but there was such great natural light that I didn’t need it!

We capture pictures of him alone and then added in his mommy and daddy. We were even able to get outdoor portraits which isn’t something I am usually able to get. This was a fun addition.

Everything about this session was just lovely and it was such an honor to, not only, photograph sweet Noah but to also photograph his mommy and daddy while he was in his mommy’s belly.

Shekinah’s Newborn Session | Newborn Photographer in Ruston Louisiana

The sweetest in home newborn session outside of Ruston Louisiana. I loved every second of this session. These two baby girls are under two years old, obviously the newborn is haha!! This can change the dynamic of an in-home newborn session simply because you have to keep the toddlers happy and go with the flow of what they are willing to do. I never, ever stress anything for toddlers because the last thing I want is for them to have a meltdown. I make it a point to let them be the boss and I just follow their direction.

Little Selah was so silly and loved taking a look at my camera and all the lighting equipment I had. She thought it was the best to tell her mama and daddy to say cheese while she cheesed as hard as she could behind the camera. It is always so fun to interact with little ones to get them to trust me so that when I ask them to do things, they are more willing. It’s also more likely that I will be able to get their personality to shine.

Shekinah was an angel for her session. She did so good. Dream baby!! I could photograph in home newborn sessions all day every day and never tire of it. I love it that much.

My sister is having her fourth little girl so we’re adding to the girl tribe on my side of the family. All the grand babies are girls. Talk about loud when they all get together. It is so fun for them, though!

Jessica is having her baby in September so that put her maternity session right in the middle of summer. Here in North Louisiana, summer is HOT!! Mix heat and humidity with being pregnant and its not the best combo. I didn’t want to have her out in the heat for long so we opted to do most of the portraits in her home. I set up my off camera flash and we got to work.

After the indoor portion we went to downtown Minden and found a beautiful crepe myrtle tree to get a few outdoor images. This is the way to go when it’s as hot as it has been!

I love these images so much and can’t wait to add this sweet little bundle of joy to our family. It won’t be much longer until we are photographing this sweet brand new baby.

Have I ever said I love newborn sessions?? Oh, I have. Sorry. You know what, I’m actually not sorry. I LOVE newborn sessions.

They are so sweet and precious. It fills my cup right up to photograph this most precious time in a family’s life. I can’t imagine a greater honor. This time is so fresh, so new, so fleeting. Moments of newborn life tend to be foggy and hard to recall. I am so thankful that I get to play a part in parent’s remembering the tiny details of their precious, fresh babe.

I came to Rebekah’s home, set everything up and began to document their brand new baby. She mentioned she wanted some images of them outside on their land. I had never done outdoor newborn portraits before but I had really been wanting to. There is something about a sweet little baby out in nature that I find so beautiful. Of course, it is hard to beat my love for a baby on a white blanket. I’m sure you know that by now. Haha!

I walked around while baby was getting fed and found a great spot to bring them for the outdoor portion of this session. We got out there and I just knew these were going to be some of my favorites from the session. I was right, too.

I am so thankful to have been able to capture this session for this family that I love.
