Allison turns 14 | North Louisiana Photographer

My little sister turned 14 and I have no idea how!! Seems like just yesterday we were all waiting anxiously to get to see her after she was born. Wasn’t she just toddling around, learning how to walk?? Time goes by so quickly! I know it can be hard to feel that when you are in the trenches of parenthood, raising those little ones. But truly, before you know it, they are teens. From what I hear, that is a new can of worms. Haha!!

Every year I try to take my little sister out for photos to celebrate another year. She loves her animals so we usually incorporate them as well. Thankfully, my parents live on a beautiful piece of land in North Louisiana that we always do her photos at. This is the same piece of land that I grew up on and it just love it.

Earlier in the year, my sister was kicked in the face by one of their horses. She made a miraculous recovery and didn’t even have a broken bone! We were so thankful!! To me, for her get right back out there with her horses is so brave. I think I would be terrified. But she goes out with grace and loves them all the same.

Pruitt Christmas | Family Photographer in North Louisiana

Oh how I love this session! We planned this in home Christmas session before little Jesse was even born. When we finally were able to see the finished product, ahhh!!

I offered these in-home Christmas sessions over the Christmas season (obviously) and can’t wait to bring them back again. They were so fun! I loved seeing the unique way that everyone decorates for the seasons. Christmas is my favorite time of the year and getting to document these lovely littles around the tree was just the best!!

Reesby Family | Shreveport Louisiana Family Photogrpaher

Meet the Reesby family. They were such a sweet group of people! We snuck this session in real quick before Christmas came and I hurried to get them back to them. The Christmas season can seems to sneak up on you sometimes. I was so glad that I was able to work this session in!

We met at the Red River Wildlife Refuge in Shreveport on cool evening in December. I had just been there a few short weeks ago and there were still lots of leaves on the trees. When I arrived, to my dismay, all the leaves were gone. WAHH!!! This makes it a little tricky to find diffused light, which is vital to my style, but with the help of some tree branches I was able to block the sun from hitting my lens and we still got great images that I am proud of.

Photographing families with older children can be a little tricky sometimes because there’s a little less than you can do than with little, little kids. I like to have littles play games and such to keep them interested in the photos. But that means I am working HARD!! With the older kids, it is easier in that you get in and get it done with hardly any fuss. Haha!! I love photographing families with all ages of kiddos, though! All stages of families are important and need to documented.

The Wade family

This is the second time I have come to Hot Springs, Ar to photograph this family all together. They do not all live in the same area so they meet in the middle for Christmas. I love that they have asked me to come photograph them twice now. It is so special!

Last year it was so, so cold. We moved so fast! This year it felt amazing so we were able to take our time and get so many beautiful photos.

Let’s take a moment and admire this amazing location!! I am so glad I found it. What a backdrop!

You may have seen these sweet people on the blog before. Back in the summer I photographed their extended family session. To have them bring me back for another session is the best compliment ever. Thank you a million times over!!

We met at a little park near their home for their session. Jennifer told me she had wanted photos done here for the past five years. When I heard that, I knew we had to make this location work. These types of locations mean so much to me because they mean so much to my families. It’s one thing to have beautiful photos at a location that I choose but it is far more important to have photos at a location that is special to you. It makes the photos that much more special.

We had to reschedule this session several times due to weather. We were so thankful that this time the weather was perfect. It was chilly, but not too cold. The sun was gorgeous! I don’t we could have requested a better day.

The Spikes Family

Oh my word, y’all. If these are the cutest little kids you ever did see. They were so incredibly sweet, too! I loved every single second of our time together. The light was gorgeous, we had hardly a cloud in the sky. It was just a dream come true.

We met at the Red River Wildlife Refuge in Shreveport, LA. This location is so good for families with small kids because there is so much room for them to just be kids. THere’s nothing they can hurt and there’s hardly a car that drives by. There are beautiful trees that create such lovely lead lines. It’s a photographer’s dream!

These sweet boys were so good at having their pictures taken, They so easily warmed up to me and were just able to be themselves. That’s always the best! I don’t ever want kiddos to be afraid of me. Of course that happens many times because I am so new to them. But when they just warm right up to me, it is so easy to get good stuff!

Sweet little David. I loved this session and meeting this sweet family. There is nothing like bringing these precious babies home and seeing them in the little nursery that you spent so many months planning and prepping. Everything culminating to this day. How many months you wait and dream: what will they look like, how tiny will they be, what will their little cry sound like. So many unknowns. But when you see them for the first time, all the waiting and planning and dreaming becomes reality- they are here.

I will never take it for granted, all the moms and dads bringing me into their home to photograph such a special time in their lives. It is just the absolute best.

This session took place in Bossier City, just on the other side of the river from Shreveport, LA. Little David’s family welcomed me into their home and treated me so kindly. I know his parents are just going to do the best job raising him. Thank you, Andersons, for allowing me to document this incredible time for you!

Our Family Portraits | Family Photographer in Minden Louisiana

Here’s a look at our family photos for 2023. Last year we had the amazing opportunity to work with a local photographer and do a family photo swap. This year, I just let time get away from me and I never set anything up. That meant I was doing the photos myself. How does that work you ask? Stick around and I will explain.

I knew I wanted to do our family photos on our 10 acres of land just outside of Minden, Louisiana. I grew up in the country and we got married we moved to an even more secluded area than what I grew up in. However, it is not that far from the larger town (that is still small).

Behind our house is a patch of woods just beside our pond, that is currently very low due to the exceptionally dry year we have had. I noticed the beauty in this patch of woods a few years ago and did my sis-in-law’s and brother-in-law’s family photos there. I just loved how they looked and it is still one of my favorite sessions. I knew I wanted to do ours there.

I didn’t know would be able to get our photos in with my schedule and my husband’s work schedule. Most of my weekends were all booked up with other family’s photos. Then I got sick. I had to reschedule sessions. Oh no! Turns out, I felt better the next day and I now had an opening for our family session! Funny how that works, right?

So, to bring this book to an end and tell you about the part you have been waiting for.. How did *I* take my own family’s photos? A fancy thing called a tripod and the feature on my camera that allows me to push the shutter and it wait 10 seconds to actually take the photo.

I posed my family in the way I wanted them, left a little spot for myself, framed the photo how I wanted it, pushed the shutter and ran. Literally. I ran. No joke. It was comical, I am sure. What makes it funnier is that the cute poses where we are looking at each other.. I literally ran a second ago and then we were all cute and cuddly. haha!! Oh man…

Now that I have written a book called “Our Family Photos” you can enjoy the beautiful photos that I look at 100 times a day and will be soon printing them to hang all over my house. Thank you and good day.

Pruitt Family | Minden Louisiana Family Photographer

The Pruitt family

This session was seriously so much fun! I’m sure you will be able to tell when you see them. There were so many laughs and smiles. It made my day.

We met in a field at our church in Minden, Louisiana. There were just enough fall-looking plants that it made this session scream “IT’S FALL” and I just loved that. We didn’t have a whole lot of light to work with because of the thick layer of clouds that were covering where the sunset would be, but we made it work and I really love these images.

We picked flowers, ran around, a certain boy put moss is his hair (HAHA!!), there was no shortage of fun, I can assure you. That’s how a family session should be, if you ask me. I don’t want anyone to leave their session with me stressed. I always want to create an environment that welcomes fun and relaxation. Where it’s ok for things to not be perfect. Motherhood is far from perfect.

I love being able to capture personality and I would say we did just that with this session.

Smith Family | Shreveport Louisiana Family Photographer

The Smith family
I had the privilege of meeting the Smith family this year when I photographed sweet Vivian’s first birthday party and I instantly fell in love with them. First of all, look how stunning they are!! Second, they are some of the sweetest and most genuine people you will ever meet. Deborah is so full of life and joy. You can’t help but be happy when you are around her. I am so honored that I was able to photograph them for a second time this year. There is truly no greater compliment than to be asked to come back again and again. I will never stop being thankful for the many families that trust me so much. It means the world to me!

We met for our session at the Red River Wildlife Refuge in Shreveport, Louisiana. This is such a lovely location only a few minutes from town. I love photographing families with small children here because there is just so much room for them to run around and play without worry of cars driving by. I also love the pecan trees that decorate the refuge. It is such a lovely and welcoming location.

We had our session mid October and let me tell you, it felt like mid summer. It was so warm! Everyone handled it like a champ and we were able to get some very beautiful images that I just love.
