In Home Pregnancy Announcement Session | Shreveport Louisiana Maternity Photographer

Ok y’all. Sit tight for this one.

Some of our very good friends are having a baby after many prayers have been prayed for them. Our girls prayed every single night that they would have a baby and they are so excited when they got the news. Our babies will only be a few months apart and we can’t wait for them to get to grow up as little besties.

Because it is the middle of simmer here in North Louisiana we opted to stay indoors for this announcement session. These sessions are sooo much fun! There is nothing better as a newborn photographer to get to photograph your friends announcing they are expecting a sweet baby.

Of course we had to include the fur babies in a fun photo, too!

Minden’s Summer Soiree | Minden Louisiana Photographer

A few months ago Minden, Louisiana had a Summer Soiree at the Fuller White House renovated by Sara Mcdaniel in conjunction with Magnolia Network’s In With The Old. Sara has worked so hard to put Minden on the map and I would say she is doing an amazing job!

This fun event was put together as a fundraising opportunity for the Mayor of Minden and the Chief of Police. So many came out to show their love and support. One thing I have noticed about Minden is they love big and they love well.

Incredible teams came together to make this event the success that it was. From event planners to caterers, everything was spectacular!

Thank you Minden for being the friendliest city in the south!

Reesby Family | Shreveport Louisiana Family Photogrpaher

Meet the Reesby family. They were such a sweet group of people! We snuck this session in real quick before Christmas came and I hurried to get them back to them. The Christmas season can seems to sneak up on you sometimes. I was so glad that I was able to work this session in!

We met at the Red River Wildlife Refuge in Shreveport on cool evening in December. I had just been there a few short weeks ago and there were still lots of leaves on the trees. When I arrived, to my dismay, all the leaves were gone. WAHH!!! This makes it a little tricky to find diffused light, which is vital to my style, but with the help of some tree branches I was able to block the sun from hitting my lens and we still got great images that I am proud of.

Photographing families with older children can be a little tricky sometimes because there’s a little less than you can do than with little, little kids. I like to have littles play games and such to keep them interested in the photos. But that means I am working HARD!! With the older kids, it is easier in that you get in and get it done with hardly any fuss. Haha!! I love photographing families with all ages of kiddos, though! All stages of families are important and need to documented.

Winters Family | North Louisiana Family Photographer

The Winters Family

This session took place an hour and a half before sunset, but the unfortunate thing is that it was so cloudy it looked like we had started after sunset. I had to work fast because we were losing light so fast. There was cold front coming in so it was windy, clod, dreary, cloudy, gloomy.. you name it and it was probably that. Little Kinlee had more than photos on her mind. Seeing she is my niece she knows that me usually means her BFF Emma is nearby. All she wanted to do was go see Emma. Haha!!! I had my work cut out for me but thankfully I know a few tricks.

We did all things, played all the games, made it as interesting as possible for an almost two year old. This age is always hard because they are old enough to have a very strong opinion and it can hard to sway them one way or the other.
Bribery works sometimes, but not always. I knew I had to think of ways to make taking photos sound really fun, or better yet, make her even forget we were taking photos and just think we were playing games.

By looking at these photos, I would say it worked. We got some of the sweetest smiles and even some real sass. Haha!! I just love this kid so much. She is such a hoot!

Byram Family | North Louisiana Family Photographer

Meet the Byram family. If you’re from the North Louisiana area then you probably know a few of these faces from the medical field. George Byram is a CRNA at Minden Medical and Trey Byram is an Orthopedic Surgeon in Shreveport. How neat is that?

It was such an honor to meet these lovely people and play a part in documenting their family.

It was a hot day and rain was threatening to ruin the session, but we decided to risk it. The rain cleared away and the sun broke through the clouds. It ended up being lovely! I was so glad we didn’t reschedule.

We planned our session together in the flags that the Abshire’s put out each year. These flags are something special and it was wonderful to be able to photograph another family in them.

Katie | Lake Bistineau Louisiana Photographer

The beautiful Katie graced my lens I tell you, I can’t wait for you to see these.

Not only is Katie gorgeous but she is the sweetest little thing. She’s always wearing a smile.

We decided to do her session out on Lake Bistineau, because who doesn’t LOVE Lake Bistineau?! I know I love it. It is gorgeous at every seaon.

Katie is amazing with hair, and HAS amazing hair too! She has an instagram account where she shares hair tutorials so we knew we wanted to get some up close images of her hair. We came in with a plan and I would say we got some amazing images that I just love.

Typically I am a family and newborn photographer but I just love the change of scenery every now and then by doing a portrait session. They are so fun and I love the personality I get to capture one-on-one.

Five ways to set your family up for a successful family session | Ruston Louisiana family and newborn photographer

Hey mama! You’ve just booked a family session and you’re wondering how you’re going to get your kiddos to cooperate. This is such a valid concern! As a family and newborn photographer in the Ruston Louisiana area, I’ve got some tips that just might help!

1. Instead of bribing with treats and candy, instead bribe with play. “Let’s do this really quick and then we can play Simon says” A fun trick is to play Simon says by telling them “Simon says look at the camera”, “Simon says give mommy a kiss”, etc.

2. Don’t come hungry. Get some food in everyone’s tummies before your session. No one photographs well hangry.

3. Be a little more lenient than usual. It’s totally ok if kiddos are hyper or grumpy. Sometimes forcing them to do things will make matters worse. When it comes to these sessions, a lot of times, they are in charge. This may sound crazy, but it always works out best.

4. Schedule your session for when they are their happiest. Some kids are happiest in the morning. If so, schedule a sunrise session. Yes, sunrise is EARLY, but you won’t regret it if your littles are their happiest.

5. Remember to have fun and trust your photographer to capture moments that you and your family will adore

Mary and Larry | A Downtown Homer Louisiana Engagement Session

Mary and Larry’s engagement session took place in downton Homer, Louisiana. This small town in North Louisiana has much to offer as far as photography goes because of the beautiful courthouse and the lovely buildings that surround the square. This historic town is marked with character and charm.

Mary and Larry are getting married July 16th in Magnolia Arkansas at the Big Barn at Oak Hill Ranch. We are so thrilled to be able to capture this incredible day for them and know they are going to make the most lovely bride and groom.

We started their engagment session at the courthouse in downtown Homer and worked our way across town stopping at unique places that we felt would help to create a gorgeous images for them. One location in particular was my personal favorite. While scouting out the area I found a crepe myrtle tree, on the side of the road, near an abandonded house. This wasn’t ideal, but I felt the tree had the potential to be epic. And let me tell you, it was! This set of images are my favorite of their entire session and I am just so thrilled we stopped!

The gorgeous architechture, the lovely couple, the amazing light we got at the end made this one of my top favorite couples sessions to date. I love the images we got and I am so proud of us all!
